Nobodies is on the move.
The Melissa McCarthy and Ben Falcone-produced single-camera comedy is moving from TV Land — where it aired its first season in March — to Paramount Network. The second 12-episode season of Nobodies is set to air in the spring, becoming the third show that was developed at TV Land to jump to Viacom's forthcoming general entertainment hub Paramount Network.
Nobodies is inspired by the real lives of writers Hugh Davidson, Larry Dorf and Rachel Ramras (Adult Swim's Mike Tyson's Mysteries), who watched as their friends from Los Angeles-based improv and sketch comedy troupe The Groundlings went on to star in blockbuster comedies and win Oscars while they toiled away in Hollywood.
The 10-episode first season aired on TV Land, where it averaged a little more than 400,000 total viewers (with three days of DVR).
The comedy, produced by JAX Media, was developed for TV Land by head of originals Keith Cox, who this year added oversight of Paramount Network to his purview. The show was renewed for a second season in January, ahead of its March debut, in an early vote of confidence by Cox.
Nobodies becomes the third show to move from the Cox-led TV Land to Paramount Network. The latter will launch Jan. 18 when it rebrands from Spike TV as part of Viacom's larger shift to focus on six core brands — Paramount Network, MTV, Comedy Central, BET, Nickelodeon and Nick Jr. — as CEO Bob Bakish looks to reinvigorate the media behemoth. In March, The Hollywood Reporter exclusively reported that TV Land's Heathers reboot — which was poised to be the niche network's first hourlong show — as well as comedy American Woman would be making the move to Paramount Network.
Paramount Network will now boast a roster of originals that includes Nobodies, Heathers, American Woman, Waco and Kevin Costner-starrer Yellowstone, with the latter — picked up straight to series — the first show developed specifically for the general entertainment network. MTV's The Shannara Chronicles is currently wrapping its second season on Spike as executives mull the future of the show once the network rebrands. (Spike recently canceled scripted entry The Mist rather than renew the reboot for a second season to air on Paramount Network.)
As Nobodies makes the move to Paramount Network, TV Land's remaining scripted slate includes network-defining hit Younger, Teachers, Throwing Shade and Lopez. The Cox-led network has yet to pick up any additional pilots as Viacom continues to shuffle its scripted lineup.
