'Saturday Night Live' Names "Weekend Update" Duo Co-Head Writers

They will join current head writers Kent Sublette and Bryan Tucker, who took over for Chris Kelly and Sarah Schneider.

Saturday Night Live has named "Weekend Update" duo Michael Che and Colin Jost as head writers.

They will join current head writers Kent Sublette and Bryan Tucker, who took over earlier this year for Chris Kelly and Sarah Schneider on the NBC staple. SNL has also tapped Sudi Green and Fran Gillespie as writing supervisors.

Jost and Che started on "Weekend Update" in 2014. A four-time WGA Award-winner and recipient of a Peabody Award, Jost first began at SNL as a writer in 2005. Che, meanwhile, was on Comedy Central's The Daily Show before joining the Lorne Michaels-produced series in 2013.

Green and Gillespie, for their part, are responsible for writing “Cartier Fidget Spinner Ad,” “E! New Line-Up Promo” with Gal Gadot and more, as well as spearheading a number of other popular sketches.

This season, SNL is averaging a 2.89 rating in adults 18-49 and roughly 9.6 million overall viewers according to Nielsen, making it the show's No. 2 most-watched season in nine years. All told, with streaming and linear viewers tallied, SNL is averaging a 4.0 rating in the key demo.

The foursome are taking over for former head writers Kelly and Schneider, who departed the sketch series for their own Comedy Central series The Other Two. Jost already served as head writer on SNL, a job he took over from Seth Meyers in 2012, but stepped down from the post in 2015 to focus solely on "Weekend Update."

Jost is repped by CAA, while Che is repped by UTA.
