‘The Voice’ Season 13 Has Its Four Finalists
Team Blake lands two spots in next week’s finals.
The Voice season 13’s finalists were announced on a live results episode on Tuesday night.
After the nationwide vote based on Monday night’s solo performances and duets, three artists automatically advanced to the finals, the bottom two were automatically eliminated and the singers in fourth, fifth and sixth place had to go up against each other, singing live for the instant save. The competition was cut in half, and coaches Blake Shelton, Adam Levine, Miley Cyrus and Jennifer Hudson anxiously awaited results alongside viewers.
The first finalist voted through was Team Blake’s Chloe Kohanski. Team Blake has been represented in the finals for 11 of the previous 12 seasons, so this was no surprise.
After a performance from Machine Gun Kelly, X Ambassadors and Bebe Rexha of “Home,” more results came in. Team Adam’s Addison Agen nabbed the second spot in next week’s finals, giving Levine some peace of mind.
Hudson then took the stage to perform her new single “Burden Down.” Her performance was followed by good news for Team Miley: Brooke Simpson was voted through to the finals. Cyrus didn’t place any artists in the finals during season 11, so things were looking up for the coach who stressed women’s empowerment this season.
Team Blake’s Keisha Renee and Team JHud’s Davon Fleming were in the bottom two and were therefore eliminated automatically. Fleming’s elimination was particularly surprising, as he had one of the best voices this season. His risky song choices apparently did not click with viewers.
That left Team Adam’s Adam Cunningham, Team JHud’s Noah Mac and Team Blake’s Red Marlow to sing for the instant save. Marlow sang “Dixieland Delight,” which was well within his wheelhouse. Marlow is more of an entertainer than a vocalist, so going with something upbeat was the right choice and he certainly appealed to his classic country fans. Shelton commended his journey on the show.
Cunningham, no stranger to the high-stakes situation of the instant save, sang “Here’s a Quarter (Call Someone Who Cares)” by Travis Tritt.
Following Marlow worked against Cunningham, as the song choice was a little too similar. He did well, but like Marlow, he’s more of an entertainer than a straight-up vocalist.
Mac closed things out with a very original performance of “Sign of the Times” by Harry Styles. He brought more emotion to his performance than the other two artists and also showcased his skills at producing himself yet again. However, after the nationwide live vote on Twitter, viewers saved Marlow, giving Team Blake two finalists and freezing Team JHud out of the competition.
