'Corporate' Renewed for Season 2 at Comedy Central

The scripted comedy scores an early pickup as the Viacom-owned cable network pushes harder into scripted originals.

Comedy Central has given an early season two pickup to Corporate.

The Viacom-owned cable network has renewed the scripted comedy for a second cycle. The renewal arrives weeks before the workplace comedy's season one finale.

Corporate, the first of three new scripted series to air on Comedy Central this year, got off to a strong start in January, launching as the highest-rated basic-cable primetime comedy of the 2017-18 season among Comedy Central's core men 18-34 demographic.

Created by Jake Weisman, Matt Ingebretson and Pat Bishop, Corporate stars Weisman and Ingebretson as two junior executives-in-training at Hampton DeVille, a heartless, corporate hellhole led by tyrannical CEO Christian DeVille (Lance Reddick) and his top lieutenants, sycophants John and Kate (Adam Lustick and Anne Dudek).

Next up in Comedy Central's scripted push are The Other Two, from former Saturday Night Live co-head writers Chris Kelly and Sarah Schneider and Lorne Michaels' Broadway Video; and South Side, from former Late Night With Jimmy Fallon writers/performers Diallo Riddle and Bashir Salahuddin, as well as Bashir’s brother, Sultan Salahuddin.

The push comes as Comedy Central, like other Viacom-owned cable networks, is making a strong push for viewers as part of the media giant's efforts to boost its overall bottom line.

"We're absolutely thrilled to continue selling our souls making some more anti-corporate comedy for one of the biggest corporations in the world,” Weisman, Ingebretson and Bishop said in a joint statement announcing the renewal Monday.
