Grade School and falling in love with computers (Bill Gates):
He went to Lakeside school and as an eighth grader started taking interest in programming after the Mother’s club at his school bought a Teletype Model 33 ASR terminal and bought the school’s children some time on the computer. He started working on BASIC and wrote his first computer program; a game of tic-tac-toe allowing the user to play against the computer. It was during this time that he became fascinated with computers. Soon though the funding from the Mother’s Club diminished and Gates along with three of his peers were banned from using the Computer Center Corporations computers because they were caught exploiting bugs on them in order to get more computer time.
Going to college (Bill Gates):
He scored 1590 out of 1600 in his SAT’s and received the National Merit Scholarship and enrolled in Harvard, selected a pre-law major but later took on mathematics and graduate level computer science. There he met Steve Ballmer, the former CEO of Microsoft. He opted to drop out of Microsoft and later hired Ballmer after he dropped out of Stanford University.
Soon, as Microsoft started to take off with Paul Allen, he decided to drop out of Harvard and talked to his parents about his decision who were very supportive. He commented that,

He believes that while it is fine to enjoy success, it is also a “lousy teacher” and gives the illusion that you can’t lose, he believes that a person can only continue moving forward if he or she heeds failure.
He believes that one of the most amazing inventions of our time is the personal computer, which has become a source of creativity and inspiration and also as a means of communication.
He also says that the internet is the town’s square to the futures global village, and serves as a source of connection for all kinds of people.
He has spoken against discrimination repeatedly and believes that there is so much of it in the world that minorities can never get a leg up.
