A top Catalan independence leader left jail today after posting bond.

Supreme Court Judge Pablo Llarena had ruled Thursday that five Catalonian legislators could be freed on bail, including Carme Forcadell, a pro-independence activist and former speaker of the Catalonia Parliament.

Forcadell left jail this afternoon after posting the 150,000 euro (U.S. $175,000) bond, according to her lawyer, Andreu Van der Eynde.

Forcadell was one of the key figures in the push for independence in Catalunya and read the group's declaration of independence from Spain on Oct. 27 in Barcelona.

On Oct. 30, a Spanish judge asked that 20 Catalan politicians be investigated for rebellion, sedition, and misuse of public funds over the push for independence that challenged Spain's central government.

Spain is currently going through one of the worst political crises in decades after a referendum in Catalunya Oct. 1 saw millions of people take to the streets to demand the right to vote. According to the Catalunya government, 90 percent of people there voted in favor of independence. Violent clashes between protesters and police injured some 900 people.

In his decision to grant the five independence leaders bail, Llarena wrote: "All the accused … have expressed they would either renounce future political activity or those who will remain active, will do it within the (Spanish) constitutional framework."

Two pacifist activists, Jordi Sanchez, the president of the Catalunya National Assembly (ANC) and Jordi Cuixart, the president of Omnium Cultural, are currently being held in prison as part of the same inquiry. Eight former Catalan government members have also been detained since last week. They are not part of the group granted bail by Llarena Thursday.

For some pro-independence Catalans who consider these detainees political prisoners, these arrests are an emotional reminder of the days of fascism in Spain.

The Catalonia Parliament was dissolved by Madrid after the declaration of independence.

Catalans are scheduled to vote in new regional elections on Dec. 21.

Meanwhile, Spanish prosecutors are still pushing for the extradition of former Catalan President Carles Puigdemont and five of his former ministers. They fled to Belgium after Spanish prosecutors said they would investigate them for rebellion, which carries a prison sentence of up to 30 years. They are scheduled to appear in court in Brussels on Nov. 17.

'Top Gun,' 'ER' star Anthony Edwards says he was molested as teenager

"Top Gun" and "ER" star Anthony Edwards is now speaking out about alleged sexual abuse he says began more than four decades ago.

In a heartfelt essay published on Medium titled "Yes Mom, There Is Something Wrong," the actor talks about being just 14 years old when his mother "opened the door for me to answer honestly about the rumors she had heard about Gary Goddard — who was my mentor, teacher and friend — being a pedophile."

Edwards says he was not honest back then and denied the rumors due to "complete panic."

Goddard, now 63, is a film director, writer and producer behind such movies as "Masters of the Universe." Edwards says the duo met when he was just 12 and the producer was almost a decade older.

A request for comment from Goddard were not immediately returned to ABC News.

This isn't the first time Goddard has been accused of abuse. Three years ago, a case was brought against him and dropped by actor Michael Egan.

Goddard’s attorneys told The Wrap in 2014 that “the allegations against him are categorically denied,” and that he “did not molest or touch or annoy Mr. Egan or commit any of the acts alleged.”

"One of the most tragic effects of sexual abuse in children is that the victims often feel deeply responsible — as if it is somehow their fault," Edwards writes. "Only after I was able to separate my experience, process it, and put it in its place could I accept this truth: My abuse may always be with me, but it does not own me."

Therapy and support from fellow abuse survivors have been saving graces, Edwards writes.

But he also adds that "22 years ago, I happened to run into Gary Goddard at an airport. I was able to express my outrage at what he had done. He swore to his remorse and said that he had gotten help. I felt a temporary sense of relief."

This relief ended when he saw Goddard's name in the press yet again for the accusations of 2014. Edwards says he sought therapy yet again and now, he is finally coming to terms with the "conversation that I wish I could have had with my mom when I was 14."

"I’ve learned a lot in these last four years. Most importantly, I’ve learned that I’m not alone," he writes. "Secrecy, shame and fear are the tools of abuse, and it is only by breaking the stigma of childhood sexual abuse that we can heal, change attitudes, and create safer environments for our children … I did not go from being a victim to a survivor alone. No one does. I had to ask for help, and I am so grateful that I did."

The White House reacted Friday to a series of sexual misconduct allegations leveled against Republican Senate candidate Judge Roy Moore, saying that President Donald Trump believes if they are proven true then Moore should "step aside."

"Like most Americans, the president believes we cannot allow a mere allegation, in this case one from many years ago, to destroy a person’s life," press secretary Sarah Sanders told reporters on Air Force One en route to Da Nang, Vietnam. "However, the president also believes that if these allegations are true, Judge Moore will do the right thing and step aside."

Moore has vehemently denied allegations reported by The Washington Post from four separate women, including one who accused Moore of engaging in sexual activity with her when she was just 14 years old in the late 1970s.

"The Obama-Clinton Machine’s liberal media lapdogs just launched the most vicious and nasty round of attacks against me I’ve EVER faced! We are are in the midst of a spiritual battle with those who want to silence our message," Moore said in a statement Thursday.

Immediately following the report, multiple GOP senators called on Moore to step down from his run in Alabama's special election to fill Jeff Sessions' seat if the allegations were proven true. The Washington Post said its reporting was based on accounts provided by "more than 20 people who said they knew Moore between 1977 and 1982.”

Moore's run for the Senate was widely promoted by former White House chief strategist Steve Bannon, who worked against Trump in the GOP primary after the president endorsed Moore's opponent Sen. Luther Strange.

Bannon reacted to the report in a speech in New Hampshire on Thursday evening comparing it to the infamous "Access Hollywood" tape first published by the Washington Post in which Trump was recorded bragging about groping women.

"The Bezos-Amazon-Washington Post that dropped that dime on Donald Trump, is the same Bezos-Amazon-Washington Post that dropped the dime this afternoon on Judge Roy Moore," Bannon said. "Now is that a coincidence? That's what I mean when I say opposition party, right?"

Following Moore's win in September, Trump downplayed his support for Strange and threw his support behind Moore's run against Democratic candidate Doug Jones.

The Alabama Secretary of State's office told ABC News Thursday that regardless of Moore's decision on whether to stay in the race, his name will still appear on the ballot according to state law. The special election is set for Dec. 12.

Japan suicide websites targeted after 'house of horrors'

Japan's government says it wants to clamp down on websites where vulnerable people can share suicidal thoughts.

The move comes in response to an alleged serial murder case in which such sites were used.

In October, nine dismembered bodies were discovered in coolers and tool boxes in a so-called "house of horrors" in the suburbs of Tokyo.

Investigators found nine heads along with a large number of arm and leg bones.

Takahiro Shiraishi, 27, has admitted to killing nine people since late August in a case that has stunned Japan.

How did he find his victims?

Police say Mr Shiraishi came to know his victims through social media, where they had expressed suicidal thoughts.

It is alleged that he killed them after luring them to his apartment, saying he would help them take their own lives.

Mr Shiraishi's nine victims included three high school students – the youngest aged 15 – a female student, four women in their twenties and a 20-year-old man.

The only male in the group was killed after confronting Mr Shiraishi about the whereabouts of his girlfriend, Japanese media reported.

The discovery at his flat was made as police were looking into the disappearance of a young woman.

Police say she had gone on social media looking for somebody to take her life with.

What are suicide websites?

Suicide websites and social media groups can provide information to individuals who wish to kill themselves.

Such sites can promote and encourage others to take their own lives.

Toru Igawa, the head of a Tokyo-based suicide prevention centre, told the Japan Times that the internet can make things worse for young Japanese people.

He says that previously some people had baulked at killing themselves because they had not wanted to die alone – but suicide platforms and social media have changed that.

"It may now be easier to overcome that hurdle after finding online companions," he said.

A 2015 UK study found that 20% of young adults with a history of suicidal self-harm had visited sites containing information on how to kill or hurt oneself, compared with just three percent of young adults more broadly.

What can the Japanese government do?

A senior member of the government – the Chief Cabinet Secretary, Yoshihide Suga – has instructed ministers to step up measures against so-called "suicide websites" and social media.

"The use of Twitter – a social networking site that is difficult to keep an eye on – to exploit the cries for help by victims who wrote about committing suicide is despicable," he said.

"We will get to the bottom of this crime, and work towards preventing its re-occurrence."

Mr Suga has asked ministers to study the spread of suicide websites and to cooperate with web operators and the authorities.

He asked them to step up measures to delete or restrain problematic sites.

The Japanese authorities have sought to tackle the issue for a long time.

Since the first reported internet suicide pact in 2003, the government has taken action to try to cut the country's high suicide rate through counselling programmes and blocking websites that offer suicide tips.

How high are suicide rates in Japan?

According to World Health Organization statistics, 19.7 per 100,000 people took their own lives in 2015.

Those figures do not make Japan's the highest suicide rate in the world in a developed nation.

In South Korea, 28.3 per 100,000 people took their lives in 2015.

In the United Kingdom and United States, this figure was 8.5 and 14.3 per 100,000 people respectively.

Louvre Abu Dhabi is finally set to open

The Louvre Abu Dhabi will open to the public this Saturday, a project 10 years in the making.

The ambitious venture, a partnership between the United Arab Emirates and France, involved 17 French cultural institutions and a $1.2 billion agreement to share the name and art of the world famous Louvre in Paris, according to The Associated Press.

Pritzker Prize-winning architect Jean Novel designed the sprawling complex of 55 buildings anchored by a huge dome, almost 600 feet in diameter. The latticed roof filters in light, reflecting the importance of shade and symbolic of Arab architecture.

“It wishes to create a welcoming world serenely combing light and shadow, reflection and calm,” Novel said in a statement.

Space station getting delivery from Virginia for a change

The International Space Station is getting a delivery shipped from Virginia for a change.

Orbital ATK, one of NASA's chief suppliers, plans to launch the capsule Saturday morning from Wallops Island, aboard an unmanned Antares rocket.

It will be Orbital ATK's first supply run from its home turf in more than a year. The 7:37 a.m. launch should be visible as far north as Boston and as far south as Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, although the rising sun will make it tough to see.

The last time Orbital ATK sent up supplies, in the spring, it used another company's rocket in Cape Canaveral, Florida.

The Cygnus capsule holds 7,400 pounds of cargo, including fresh fruit and vegetables for the station's six-man crew, and mealworms and micro clover for student experiments.

Tearful meeting for pair forever linked by face transplant

Standing in a stately Mayo Clinic library, Lilly Ross reached out and touched the face of a stranger, prodding the rosy cheeks and eyeing the hairless gap in a chin she once had known so well.

"That's why he always grew it so long, so he could try to mesh it together on the chin," she told Andy Sandness, as he shut his eyes and braced for the tickle of her touch on new nerve endings in the face that had been her husband's.

Sixteen months after transplant surgery gave Sandness the face that had belonged to Calen "Rudy" Ross, he met the woman who had agreed to donate her high school sweetheart's visage to a man who lived nearly a decade without one.

The two came together last month in a meeting arranged by the Mayo Clinic, the same place where Sandness underwent a 56-hour surgery that was the clinic's first such transplant. With her toddler Leonard in tow, Ross strode toward Sandness, tears welling in her eyes as they tightly embraced.

Ross had fretted before the meeting, fearful of the certain reminders of her husband, who took his own life. But her stress quickly melted away — without Calen's eyes, forehead or strong cheeks, Sandness didn't look like him, she told herself.

Instead, she saw a man whose life had changed through her husband's gift, newly confident after 10 years of hiding from mirrors and staring eyes.

"It made me proud," Ross said of the 32-year-old Sandness. "The way Rudy saw himself … he didn't see himself like that."

Sandness and Calen Ross lived lives full of hunting, fishing and exploring the outdoors before their struggles consumed them, 10 years and hundreds of miles apart.

Sandness put a rifle below his chin in late 2006 in his native Wyoming and pulled the trigger, destroying most of his face. Ross shot himself and died in southwestern Minnesota a decade later.

By then, Sandness had receded from contact with the outside world, ashamed of his injuries — surgeries to rebuild his face had left him a quarter-sized mouth, and his prosthetic nose frequently fell off.

Hope first came in 2012 when the Mayo Clinic started exploring a face transplant program and again in early 2016 when he was wait-listed for the procedure.

Ross already had agreed to donate her husband's lungs, kidneys and other organs to patients. Then LifeSource, a Midwestern nonprofit organization that facilitates organ and tissue donations, broached the idea of a donation for a man awaiting a face transplant at the clinic.

Ross and Sandness' ages, blood type, skin color and facial structure were such a near-perfect match that Sandness' surgeon, Dr. Samir Mardini, said the two men could have been cousins.

Ross consented, despite her hesitation about someday seeing her husband's face on a stranger. Eight months pregnant at the time, she said one reason to go forward was that she wanted the couple's child to one day understand what his father did to help others.

More than a year after a surgery that took a team of more than 60 medical professionals, Sandness is finding a groove in everyday life while still treasuring the simple tasks he lost for 10 years, such as chewing a piece of pizza.

He's been promoted in his work as an oilfield electrician and is expanding his world while still prizing the anonymity that comes with a normal face.

"I wouldn't go out in public. I hated going into bigger cities," he said. "And now I'm just really spreading my wings and doing the things I missed out on — going out to restaurants and eating, going dancing."

Life with a transplanted face takes work, every day. Sandness is on a daily regimen of anti-rejection medication. He's constantly working to retrain his nerves to operate in sync with his new face, giving himself facial massages and striving to improve his speech by running through the alphabet while driving or showering.

"I wanted to show you that your gift will not be wasted," Sandness told Ross.

Mardini and the rest of Sandness' medical team have delighted in seeing their patient and friend open up since the procedure, going out of his way to talk with strangers whose gaze he once hid from.

"It turns out Andy is not as much of an introvert as we thought," Mardini said. "He's enjoying these times, where he's missed out on 10 years of his life."

Ross and Sandness say they feel like family now. They plan to forge a stronger connection, and Sandness said he'll contribute to a trust fund for Leonard's education.

On the day of their meeting, the boy stared curiously at Sandness at first. But later, he walked over and waved to be picked up. Sandness happily obliged.

For Ross, just meeting Sandness felt like a huge release — a way to get past a year filled with grieving, funeral planning, childbirth and gut-wrenching decisions about organ donations.

"Meeting Andy, it has finally given me closure," she said, her voice choking as it trailed off. "Everything happened so fast."
