‘The Voice’: Season 13’s Finalists Sing for America’s Vote

From left: Blake Shelton, Jennifer Hudson, Adam Levine and Miley Cyrus of 'The Voice'

In part one of the season finale, artists sang a cover, an original single and a duet with their celebrity coaches.

Season 13’s four finalists sang three songs each in part one of The Voice’s live finale Monday night on NBC. In addition to a new cover, the artists each debuted original singles and performed in a duet with their famous coaches: Blake Shelton had two artists in the finale, while Jennifer Hudson’s team was shut out. Adam Levine and Miley Cyrus each had one artist competing.

Team Adam’s Addison Agen sang “Humble and Kind” by Tim McGraw. Agen pulled a sometimes-awkward performance together for the big finale, finishing out her performance with a tearful emotional release.

Team Blake’s Chloe Kohanski followed with her original song “Wish I Didn’t Love You.” The tune was lyrically darker than finale original singles tend to be, but it offered Kohanski the chance to put her artistry on full display.

Country lovers Red Marlow and Shelton then took the stage with their guitars for a duet of “I’m Gonna Miss Her” by Brad Paisley, a choice that came as no surprise.

Next, Team Miley’s Brooke Simpson debuted her original single "What Is Beautiful," which Cyrus co-wrote with two other female songwriters. The tune showcased the power of Simpson's voice in a personal-best performance. “This girl is The Voice!” Cyrus declared.

Agen and Levine followed with a duet of “Falling Slowly,” and Simpson and Cyrus performed Cyrus’ hit single “Wrecking Ball,” which made for a fun duet.

Team Blake’s classic country singer Marlow returned with his original, straightforward single “I Pray.”

Shelton also participated in a duet with Kohanski. They sang “You Got It” by Roy Orbison, a song choice that suited the coach better than the artist, but still found Kohanski’s lower register sounding strong.

Marlow added a country twist to “Make You Feel My Love” for his last performance of the finale. The arrangement was understated, a choice that worked, given that it showcased Marlow's vocals.

For her last performance, Simpson channeled holiday spirit and sang “O Holy Night” with a killer arrangement by Cyrus. Agen then debuted her single, “Tennessee Rain,” a delicate but layered song that earned praise from Hudson.

For the last performance of the night, Kohanski sang “Bette Davis Eyes.”

On Tuesday night, the winner of season 13 will at last be crowned. Who will you be voting for?

‘The Office’ Revival in the Works at NBC

'The Office' Revival in the Works at NBC

'The Office'

Former star Steve Carell would not be involved.

Hot on the success of the return of Will & Grace, NBC is looking to revive another of its beloved comedies: The Office.

Sources confirm to The Hollywood Reporter that the network is looking to bring back the former Steve Carell starrer for another season. Carell, however, will not return. A search is underway to find a new star to take over as the show's Michael Scott-like regional manager of paper supply company Dunder Mifflin. NBC and producers Universal Television declined comment. TV Line was first to report the news.

Sources told THR in August that The Office may be revived with a new cast and creator Greg Daniels attached. At the time, NBC and producers Universal Television said those rumors were not true. That speculation has now grown more real as the network is said to be in talks for a revival.

The Office ran for nine seasons on NBC as part of the network's Thursday comedy brand. The show — which made stars out of Carell, Rainn Wilson, John Krasinski, Jenna Fischer, Craig Robinson, Ellie Kemper and Mindy Kaling, among others — was an awards-season staple, taking home multiple Emmys, Golden Globes and other top prizes. Carell exited after season seven, with The Office continuing on for two additional cycles before the star returned for the series finale in 2013.

Creator Greg Daniels, who adapted the show from the British comedy starring Ricky Gervais, told THR in November 2016 that he was happy with how the NBC series ultimately ended. "I feel like I did in the finale what that would have been because I jumped forward in time as, like a reunion of the characters, and so, to me, I think that was it. It said everything that the show had to say," he told THR when asked if he'd be open to a U.S. follow-up as Gervais was plotting a movie revival of his own. "Personally, I feel like we left on a good note. I’m not that anxious to open it up again myself, but I would be interested to see what David Brent’s up to. But also I think the American show became so much of an ensemble and to not have the whole ensemble there would just feel kind of, I don’t know, less than. So I don’t want to criticize what he’s doing, I think that’s great, but I’m okay with us having had our finale."

News of a potential continuation of The Office comes as NBC has found ratings and awards-season fortune with its Will & Grace revival. (The reboot scored an early renewal ahead of its return in September.)

‘Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency’ Canceled at BBC America

'Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency' Canceled at BBC America

'Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency'

The Elijah Wood starrer will not return for a third season.

It's the end of the road for BBC America's Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency.

The network has canceled the serialized comedic thriller after two seasons. The Dec. 16 season finale now winds up being the show's series ender.

“We are beyond proud of this brilliant original series and so appreciative of the outstanding team behind it including Max Landis, Samuel Barnett, Elijah Wood, and many many others. It was a privilege to work with this talented and passionate group of writers, producers and actors on these two seasons of Dirk. Thanks also to the passionate fans who embraced this fantastically novel world," BBC America said Monday in a statement. Based on the novels by Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy author Douglas Adams, the series followed the bizarre adventures of eccentric “holistic” detective Dirk Gently (Samuel Barnett) and his reluctant assistant Todd (Elijah Wood) as they weaved their way through one big, seemingly insane mystery a season, crossing unlikely paths with a bevy of wild and sometimes dangerous characters, each episode landing them a few random steps closer to uncovering the truth. Landis (American Ultra, Chronicle) penned the adaptation and executive produced with Robert Cooper (Stargate Atlantis), Arvind Ethan David, Zainir Aminullah, Ted Adams, David Ozer, David Alpert and Rick Jacobs. Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency was co-produced by AMC Studios, Ideate Media and IDW Entertainment, with Circle of Confusion producing for BBC America. Never a ratings breakout, viewership was down year-over-year compared with season one. Season two averaged slightly less than 250,000 total viewers. The decision to cancel Dirk comes after BBC America bid farewell to critical darling Orphan Black in August. The Sarah Barnett-led BBC America, a joint venture between BBC Worldwide and AMC Networks, now counts Doctor Who and Luther and the upcoming Killing Eve — from Fleabag breakout Phoebe Waller Bridge and starring Sandra Oh — among its scripted originals.

ABC’s ‘Roseanne’ Revival: All the Details (So Far)

ABC's 'Roseanne' Revival: All the Details (So Far)

The reunited cast of 'Roseanne'

All the original cast, new faces and more about ABC's big reboot.

More than 20 years after it signed off, ABC is bringing Roseanne back to primetime.

Following its initial nine-season run from 1988-1997, the nine-episode revival is bringing back all of its original stars — and then some — as well as a roster of new faces as ABC looks to revisit the middle-class Connor family from Lanford, Ill.

Below, The Hollywood Reporter rounds up all the details (so far) about the highly anticipated Roseanne reboot.

WHY?

Why is ABC reviving Roseanne? In a "Peak TV" era of nearly 500 scripted shows, familiar titles are one easy way to cut through the crowded marketplace. Reboots and revivals also are easier to promote as they already have a large viewership and name recognition, making the financial burden of marketing more attractive. On another level, Roseanne focused on the working class, something that likely appealed to ABC Entertainment president Channing Dungey. The executive noted that in a Trump-led America, the network needs to do a better job of reflecting middle America.

FAMILIAR FACES

Original stars Roseanne Barr (Roseanne), John Goodman (Dan), Laurie Metcalf (Jackie), Sara Gilbert (Darlene), Michael Fishman (DJ), Lecy Goranson (Becky) and Sarah Chalke (who also played Becky but is returning for a new role) are all confirmed to return. Johnny Galecki, who played Darlene's boyfriend, David, is confirmed to reprise his role for one episode. Galecki currently stars on CBS' The Big Bang Theory, which is produced by Chuck Lorre, who was a writer and executive producer on Roseanne. But since the show is produced by a different studio, Galecki had contractual limitations that prohibited him from filming additional episodes.

Estelle Parsons will reprise her role on two episodes as Beverly, Roseanne and Jackie's mother.

Sandra Bernhard will be back for an episode as Nancy, Roseanne's friend.

James Pickens Jr. (Grey's Anatomy) will also be back for an episode as Dan's poker friend, Chuck.

Natalie West is back as Roseanne and Jackie's friend (and Dan's step-mother) Crystal Anderson.

Adilah Barnes also will return as Anne Marie Mitchell, Roseanne and Jackie's childhood friend.

NEW FACES

Emma Kenney (Shameless) will take on the role of Harris, Darlene and David's 14-year-old daughter. Harris was first introduced in season nine, when Darlene delivered prematurely. On the revival, Harris is a recent transplant from Chicago to Lanford, Illinois, and not necessarily happy about it. She is determined to do better than her parents and grandparents. Her choices from clothes to friends should represent her drive to move up the socioeconomic ladder. Harris vacillates between typical teenage acting out to showing she actually has a big heart. Roseanne diehards will recall that Harris was Roseanne and Jackie's maiden name.

Ames McNamara will play Mark, David and Darlene's 8-year-old son.

Jayden Rey will play DJ's daughter, Mary Conner.

Christopher Lloyd (Taxi, Back to the Future) will guest star on one episode as Lou, Beverly's boyfriend.

DAN'S DEATH WILL BE IGNORED

Remember that series finale in which Goodman's family patriarch Dan died? Ignore that. "I wouldn't say that it is ignoring the events of the finale, but I can confirm that Dan is definitely still alive," Dungey told reporters in August.

RIP, MARK?

The fate of David's older brother, Mark, will be addressed. Glenn Quinn starred as Mark but died of a drug overdose in 2002. David and Darlene's son is also named Mark, which likely could be in tribute to his uncle.

PRODUCING TEAM

Barr, as she did during the 220-episode-plus initial run, will continue to write on the series and executive produce. Tom Werner and Bruce Helford are also returning to exec produce the revival, which was spearheaded by Gilbert, who also exec produces. They are joined by series newcomers Whitney Cummings and Jax Media's Tony Hernandez.

AIR DATE

Roseanne will return with a special hourlong premiere Tuesday, March 27, at 8 p.m. ET/PT on ABC, after which it will air half-hour episodes in its regular time slot on Tuesdays at 8 p.m.

Donald Trump Begs for an Emmy in Showtime’s ‘Cartoon President’ Teaser

Donald Trump Begs for an Emmy in Showtime's 'Cartoon President' Teaser

'Our Cartoon President'

Stephen Colbert and Chris Licht's animated spin on on the commander-in-chief is overweight, out of breath and premiering in February.

Showtime's cartoon version of Donald Trump is coming into view — and, like its Late Show inspiration, the animated president is bumbling and not terribly fit.

"Give me an Emmy," the orange interpretation pleads after crawling to a West Wing podium in a new teaser trailer for Our Cartoon President. He is then hoisted up by his inner circle, a Bush Baby-esque Jeff Sessions, fearful Jared Kushner and wincing Melania among them.

The series, from The Late Show's Stephen Colbert and Chris Licht, is set to premiere Feb. 11 before the new season of Homeland. Showtime will sample it across platforms starting Jan. 28.

Our Cartoon President is described as an "all-access" look into Trump's day-to-day in a parallel cartoon universe. Per a network statement, "Our Cartoon President examines the quintessentially Trumpian details of the presidency and his most important relationships, and no one is safe — from his close family and confidants to key political figures from both parties and members of the media."

As if there weren't already enough of Donald Trump on TV, Showtime's Our Cartoon President is just one of the latest spoofs on air. Alec Baldwin is still parodying the president on NBC's Saturday Night Live on an almost-weekly basis, and Comedy Central has Anthony Atamanuik's The President Show.

Our Cartoon President hails from CBS Television Studios and counts R.J. Fried as showrunner.

'Chicago P.D.' Repeats Moving to Fox in National Syndication Deal

The NBC procedural will air on weekdays on Fox Television Stations beginning in September.

Chicago P.D. repeats are on the move.

The Dick Wolf procedural, which airs new episodes on NBC, is moving repeats from USA Network and Oxygen to Fox Television Stations in a national syndication deal. The drama starring Jason Beghe will begin airing on weekdays in September on local Fox owned-and-operated stations in New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Dallas, Washington, D.C., Houston, Phoenix, San Francisco, Minneapolis, Orlando and Charlotte, among other cities. The deal arrives after NBCUniversal-owned cablers USA Network and Oxygen first acquired off-network syndication rights.

“We are thrilled to bring another Dick Wolf hit to the broadcast marketplace,” said Sean O’Boyle, exec vp syndication sales at NBCUniversal Domestic Television Distribution. “Chicago P.D. is a premier procedural and is a unique opportunity for local broadcasters, as it is the only off-net scripted hour available to play as a Monday-Friday strip. This series will strengthen our partner stations’ programming schedules the same way the Law & Order franchise has done over the years.”

CBS' NCIS: New Orleans has found an off-network syndication home.

Turner-owned cable network TNT has snatched up rerun rights to the procedural starring Scott Bakula. The Kevin Reilly-led drama-focused network has landed the first three seasons of the series as well as subsequent seasons. NCIS: New Orleans began airing on TNT in early December. The news comes as flagship NCIS and spinoff NCIS: Los Angeles both air off-network repeats on USA Network.

"NCIS: New Orleans is the third series in a franchise that has had tremendous success in cable syndication, and it continues to be a huge hit for CBS,” said Scott Koondel, CBS Corp. chief corporate content licensing officer. “We have no doubt it will bring its vast and loyal audience to TNT — one of cable’s finest networks.”

NCIS: New Orleans, currently in its fourth season on CBS, has finished as a top 10 scripted broadcast drama during its entire run.
