'A Wrinkle in Time,' 'Bright' Win California on Location Awards
'Snowfall,' 'Veep,' and 'Brookyn Nine-Nine' also nabbed prizes at the ceremony recognizing top location professionals.
Disney's A Wrinkle in Time and Netflix's Bright have yet to debut, but they've already each won an award. The films nabbed prizes Sunday at the annual California on Location Awards (COLA), which were held at the Beverly Hilton.
Each year, the COLAs recognize outstanding location work on projects shot in the state, doling out honors to top location professionals who facilitate film and TV production. Other winners during the evening included Veep, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Suburbicon and Snowfall, the latter of which scored two trophies.
Wrinkle in Time's Alison Taylor received the Location Manager of the Year award for Ava DuVernay's upcoming feature starring Oprah Winfrey, Reese Witherspoon and Mindy Kailing. Meanwhile, supervising location manager Michael Haro led a win for the team behind Bright, David Ayer's soon-to-be-released sci-fi pic starring Will Smith.
Also in film, Suburbicon's Michael Burmeister took home the trophy for Location Manager of the Year in the independent feature category, and supervising location manager Rob Frank and his team were named Location Team of the Year also in the indie category for Netflix’s Sandy Wexler starring Adam Sandler.
On the TV side, Snowfall's Brian O’Neill helped the FX series win both the Location Manager of the Year and the Location Team of the Year awards for one-hour productions. In the half-hour category, Brooklyn Nine-Nine's Kyle Alexander was tapped as Location Manager of the Year, while Veep's Caleb Duffy and his team took home the Team prize.
