NBC Developing 'Natural History' Comedy From Chris Hardwick

Chris Hardwick and David X. Cohen

The 'Nerdist' personality will write and executive produce the project along with 'Futurama's David X. Cohen.

NBC is expanding its relationship with Chris Hardwick.

The broadcast network is developing a new comedy from the host and comedian called Natural History. The project centers on a young woman who returns home to become director of a beloved local natural history museum, only to find it has gone to hell in her absence. She must wrangle her well-intentioned but less-than-reliable staff while battling slashed budgets, rude patrons and collapsing dinosaur skeletons.

The script sale comes as NBC is already in business with Hardwick on the upcoming series The Awesome Show, which he will host and executive produce. Natural History, for its part, will be written by Hardwick and Futurama's David X. Cohen. The pair will also executive produce, alongside Mike Clements and Alex Murray. The project hails from UTV, Fish Ladder Production and Brillstein Entertainment Partners.

The news comes at the end of a packed year for Hardwick. In October, he launched a new production shingle and teamed with Blumhouse Productions for a three-picture, first-look film deal, one of which he's set to direct. Elsewhere, his production company Fish Ladder currently has three scripted projects in development under his first-look deal with AMC Studios. In addition, he hosts and exec produces NBC's The Wall, along with the Walking Dead post-show Talking Dead.

Cohen is repped by CAA. Hardwick is repped by UTA, Brillstein Entertainment and Stone Genow.
