Comedy Central Gets 'The Office' Repeats

The network will air the NBCUniversal comedy starting in January, with select episodes streaming.

Comedy Central is clocking in at The Office. The network announced Wednesday morning that it has secured TV rights to the nine-season catalog, which it will begin airing in January.

“We’re very excited to add the incredible Office to the Comedy Central line-up and can't wait for the Dunder Mifflin team to get here,” said Tanya Giles Comedy Central GM. “The office environment is one so many of our fans can directly relate to and this acquisition will give our audience lots to laugh about.”

Rights for the long-departed NBCUniversal sitcom may seem like no big deal, but a not insignificant portion of the internet lost its mind when rumors began swirling earlier in 2018 that Netflix was losing its own rights to the library. (The Office will remain on Netflix for the time being, with "select" episodes available to steam on the Comedy Central website and app.)

The Office, a remake of a British show of the same name, minted star after star over its run. It counted Steve Carell, Ed Helms, John Krasinski, Mindy Kaling, BJ Novak, Craig Robinson, Rainn Wilson and Ellie Kemper among its cast.

The network kicks off its new Office romance with a marathon on Jan. 15.
