'SNL': Will Ferrell Reprises George W. Bush Impression in Cold Open

Leslie Jones also appeared as former secretary of state Condoleezza Rice.

On Saturday Night Live's cold open this weekend, host Will Ferrell reprised his popular impersonation of former President George W. Bush.

He opened by saying that the Oval Office he was speaking from was actually just a set in his basement in Texas that he built so he could pretend to still be president from time to time.

“According to a new poll, my approval rating is at an all-time high,” Ferrell’s Bush mused, adding that compared to President Donald Trump he was starting to look pretty good.

But the crux of the cold open was reminding the American public not to romanticize the former president. “I was really bad,” Ferrell’s said Bush, remarking that America is still in two different wars that he started. “What has two thumbs and created ISIS? This guy!”

"I'm not a Trump synthesizer," Ferrell said in his usual play on the former president's mispronouncing of words.

SNL castmember Leslie Jones also appeared in the sketch as former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, popping in to watch their favorite movie, Minions.

The two sang a spoof of “Those Were the Days,” reminiscing on times such as when former Vice President Dick Cheney shot someone. "The housing market went to hell / Nazis kept it to themselves / Bin Laden was alive and well," they sang.

It has been almost three years since Ferrell's last appearance on SNL in 2015, when he reprised his impression of Bush in a cold open in which he announced he was running for a third presidential term and ripped into the GOP nominees at the time.
