HBO is hoping to expand its late-night presence.

The premium cable network has ordered a new late-night comedy series from emerging filmmaker Terence Nance. The six-episode project, Random Acts of Flyness, will offer a subversive look at the zeitgeist. Further details on the show are being kept under wraps, though sources say each episode will be made up of vignettes and will feature an ensemble cast.

Produced by MVMT, Random Acts of Flyness will be executive produced by Nance, who is also expected to co-write and direct the series. His credits include several short films, including Swimming in Your Skin Again and Univitellin. The Dallas native's feature film An Oversimplification of Her Beauty premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in 2012.

HBO, for its part, already airs two late-night talk shows with Bill Maher's Real Time and John Oliver's Last Week Tonight. Last fall, the pay cabler greenlighted a 10-episode late-night comedy doc series from Wyatt Cenac that will take a satirical look at social and cultural issues.
