TV Ratings: '911' Finale Wins Wednesday, 'X-Files' Signs Off
The Ryan Murphy drama leads the night, capping a strong freshman run.
Fox's 911 wrapped its strong freshman season on Wednesday night, while The X-Files wrapped what may be its sporadic 25-year run on the air.
Ryan Murphy's procedural topped all other original series for the night, nabbing a steady 1.8 rating among adults 18-49. The drama, already renewed for a second season, has been earning a 3.0 rating among adults 18-49 in live-plus-seven-day returns.
That was after the season finale of The X-Files got a decent boost by two-tenths of a point to a 0.9 rating in the key demo. The '90s drama, revived for a second time in the last few years, faces an uncertain future now that star Gillian Anderson has publicly stated she's through with the role. (It also doesn't help that the linear returns for this latest go have been seriously lackluster.)
Its primetime showing put Fox just ahead of an evenly split ABC, CBS and NBC in the key demo. ABC saw Speechless (1.3 adults) rebound in between steady episodes of The Goldbergs (1.5 adults) and Modern Family (1.6 adults). Designated Survivor pulled a 0.7 rating.
On CBS, Survivor just trailed 911 in the key demo with an average 1.7 rating among adults 18-49. Similarly episodes of SEAL Team (1.0 adults) and Criminal Minds (0.9 adults) were steady. On NBC, Law & Order (1.4 adults) and Chicago P.D. (1.3 adults) also held — as did Riverdale (0.4 adults) and Life Sentence (0.2 adults) on The CW.
