Damon Wayans Jr., Pilot Season's Most-Sought-After Actor, Lands at CBS

The 'Happy Endings' alum will topline the network's untitled Tim McAuliffe-Austen Earl comedy.

Pilot season's most-in-demand actor has set up shop at CBS.

Damon Wayans Jr., who for the past few years has had more offers than he can count, will star in an untitled CBS comedy pilot from Tim McAuliffe and Austen Earl.

The comedy centers on a 30-something couple, tired of their mundane life, who start to reconnect with their younger, cooler selves when an emerging pop star, who is drawn to their super normal suburban life, moves in.

Wayans will star as Peter, a good guy with a sense of humor who is happily married to his dream wife, Claire (uncast). Peter is an accountant and the business manager of young superstar musician Cooper (uncast), who comes to live with them.

Wayans' deal is said to include ownership points of the show's potential backend as well as a two-year, first-look deal with producer CBS Television Studios if the pilot goes to series.

McAuliffe (Last Man on Earth, Bad Teacher, Up All Night) and Austen Earl (9JKL, The Great Indoors, The Millers) penned the script and exec produce the CBS Television Studios multicamera comedy alongside Ben Winston and his Fullwell 73 banner, and 3 Arts' Michael Rotenberg and Jonathan Berry.

This is the second broadcast pilot Wayans has signed on to star in after New Girl. He received offers from multiple broadcast networks this season. He most recently filmed Singularity, an FX pilot that did not move forward.

Wayans again topped THR's list of the most-in-demand stars this pilot season. He had the same slot last year and opted to do the FX project. He's repped by WME.

Deadline first reported the casting.
